Man lands in jail after traffic stop

Mason City, IA – A traffic stop that took place in Mason City early on Friday morning has landed one man behind bars.

38-year-old James Brown of Mason City was pulled over and searched in the 500 block of North Madison Avenue. Police found that Brown was in possession of a baggy containing suspected marijuana. They also found a .32-caliber savage pistol under one of the seats in the car.

Brown has since been charged with felony possession of a firearm as a felon, misdemeanor possession of a controlled substance, marijuana which is his third or subsequent offense and failure to have a valid license or permit.

The stop occurred around 2:30 a.m. on Friday. He has a court date set for Nov. 9 at 1:15 p.m. in the Cerro Gordo County Courthouse.

Brown is being held on $5,000 bond.
