Police Line Tape On Black

Mason City, Iowa (AP) – Authorities say a 25-year-old man has been charged with murder in the slayings of two people in Mason City.

Mason City police say the bodies were found during a welfare check at the home around 7:45 a.m. Tuesday. The victims’ names haven’t been released.

Authorities soon sought Codie Matz as a material witness and found him in the Des Moines suburb of Bondurant. He was later charged with two counts of first-degree murder.

Matz remained in Cerro Gordo County Jail on Wednesday. Court records don’t list the name of an attorney who could comment for him.

Police have not said how the couple were killed.
