Purdue coach Jeff Brohm has been known as an offensive guru but Iowa coach Kirk Ferentz says it is improvement on defense that has made the Boilermakers competitive in his first season as coach. Purdue brings a 4-6 record into Saturday’s game at Kinnick Stadium.
After giving up 38 points per game year ago the Boilers have trimmed that to just 19 this season.
After rolling up 55 points two weeks ago against Ohio State the Iowa offense was smothered by Wisconsin. Ferentz says the Hawkeyes are not talented enough to overcome mistakes and missed assignments.
This will be the final game in Kinnick Stadium for Iowa’s seniors. That includes the linebacker trio of Josey Jewell, Ben Niemann and Bo Bower. Coming out of high school those three players had a total of two major offers. Both from the Hawkeyes.
Jewell will end his career as Iowa’s first three-time captain.
