Local Family Receives Recognition

Chickasaw County, IA – A Chickasaw County family recently was recognized for what they do on their farm and what types of neighbors they are.

The Leon and Barb Sheets family was named recipients of the Wergin Good Farm Neighbor Award. This is award is presented by the Iowa Department of Agriculture and the Iowa Ag Radio Network. The award highlights families who take pride in their land and being good neighbors.

The Sheets currently farm 600 acres of corn, soybeans, pasture and hay along with raising pigs. Leon got his start farming in 1980 when he started managing a sow farm in Ionia. He has been farming for 40 years, and in that time, he has been the president of the Iowa Pork Producers Association, was named Master Pork Producer by IPPA in 1984, was inducted into the IPPA Feeder Pig Hall of Fame and has received the Iowa Farm Environmental Leader Award.

The family was nominated by their neighbor, Joanne Tupper.

Chris Berg

Chris was born in Webster City and raised in Charles City. As a young kid, he would always be caught singing along to songs on the radio. He says he's good at karaoke but we think otherwise. ;) In his free time, he enjoys beginning new projects at home and hardly ever finishing them. Chris lives in Charles City with his wife Vicki, daughter Brynlee and son Jaxon.
