Sumner-Fredericksburg School Update

Sumner, IA – The Sumner-Fredricksburg School District hired a new superintendent at the beginning of the school year. Fred Matlage took the reins and after a few months, he is getting adapted to the area.

Matlage is in his 18th year as an educator and has been principal at a few schools before taking the Sumner-Fred job. Although he is still new to the job, he has goals for what he wants to see happen in the district.

He says one field that he is excited to see grow is Career Technical Education.

The school has a musical and a few concerts coming up.

A fresh face for the district might bring some new ideas to the schools that could benefit the students and the community in the long run.

Chris was born in Webster City and raised in Charles City. As a young kid, he would always be caught singing along to songs on the radio. He says he's good at karaoke but we think otherwise. ;) In his free time, he enjoys beginning new projects at home and hardly ever finishing them. Chris lives in Charles City with his wife Vicki, daughter Brynlee and son Jaxon.
