Projects Give Students Hands-On Learning Experience

Charles City, IA – Two projects are underway in the Charles City School District that is allowing students to do some hands-on learning.

Bret Spurgin is a new ag teacher at CCHS. His students are working on a new landscaping project. This class is partnering with a local business to help make this project possible.

This project has been taken over by the greenhouse management class, and they will work on the completion of the project.

Another teacher is trying to make math more enjoyable for students in the district. Diane Sande, 4th grade teacher, says how she is doing this.

Over 70 students signed up initially, so this caused Sande to recruit Melinda Masters and Ann Prichard to assist her with this program.

Sande says how this helps students enjoy math more.

There are multiple sessions of this that takes place. There are currently 50 students who participate in these activities weekly.

Chris Berg

Chris was born in Webster City and raised in Charles City. As a young kid, he would always be caught singing along to songs on the radio. He says he's good at karaoke but we think otherwise. ;) In his free time, he enjoys beginning new projects at home and hardly ever finishing them. Chris lives in Charles City with his wife Vicki, daughter Brynlee and son Jaxon.
