Grave Thief Arrested

Charles City, IA – A man who had been stealing items from grave sites in Charles City was taken into custody on Thursday.

43-year-old Terry Brandt of Charles City was caught on video taking Christmas lights from a grave after someone setup a camera. The Charles City Police Department put up the images on their Facebook page, which led to the arrest.

Brandt has been charged with two counts of fifth-degree theft and one count of possession of stolen property from a cemetery with other charges pending.

Brandt was found in the 500 block of Hulin St. in Charles City. Items that were taken were found in the 200 block of Ferguson St., 100 block of Hulin St. and 400 block of North Jackson St.

The investigation is still ongoing.
