Whaley Found Guilty of Murder in Mason City

Mason City, IA – The Mason City murder case wrapped up on Thursday with a guilty verdict being handed out.

Larry Whaley had been charged with second-degree murder after he shot 19-year-old Samantha Teeter through his door. Whaley says that he was worried for his life as he thought someone else was on the other side of the door. The prosecution says that this act was not justifiable and that Whaley acted with malice intent.

The shooting happened on Dec. 2, 2016.

A Cerro Gordo County Jury found Whaley guilty of his charge. The trial took four days, and it took the jury a little over two hours to find him guilty.

Whaley’s sentencing is Feb. 6 at 10:30 a.m. He is facing up to 50 years in prison.
