Roger Koehler, 77, of Rudd, passed away Saturday, January 6, 2018 at his winter home in Branson, Missouri.
A funeral Mass for Roger Koehler will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, January 13, 2018 at Holy Name Catholic Church 507 1st Avenue NW, Rockford, Iowa 50468 with Monsignor Walter Brunkan officiating. Burial will be at Ulsterville Cemetery in rural Rudd.
Visitation will be from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Friday, January 12, 2018 at Hauser Funeral Home in Charles City and continue one hour prior to the service at the church on Saturday.
Roger Donald Koehler, the son of Raymond and Mildred (Kielsmeier) Koehler, was born February 6, 1940 in Rudd, Iowa. He attended school in Rudd and graduated from Rudd High School in 1958. He also attended World Wide College of Auctioneering at Mason City, Iowa in 1990. Roger married Sharon S. Lenertz on November 27, 1965 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Livermore, Iowa. To this union two children were born, Ronald and Pamela.
Roger farmed in the Rudd area all of his life. He also enjoyed working at the Riceville, Iowa sale barn. Roger enjoyed spending time with his friends, family and grandchildren, collecting, playing games (especially Qwirkle), playing cribbage, casinos and traveling (especially to Branson, Missouri).
Living family members include his wife, Sharon; son, Ronald (Stacy) Koehler of Rudd; grandchildren: Derek, Larissa, Randi, Kelly and Joe; daughter, Pamela (Jason) Schmitz of Rockford; granddaughter, Kaitlin; sister, Velda deBuhr; sisters-in-law: Alyce Lenertz and Kay Henry; brother-in-law Don Henry; special cousin, Linda Schilling who so generously gave Roger a kidney on May 15, 2006 and gave him a “new life”; five great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews; extended family including many exchange students and their families; along with many others who considered him a dad or a grandpa.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Raymond and Mildred Koehler; sister, Norma Koehler; brothers-in-law: Richard deBuhr and Robert Lenertz; and sister-in-law Roberta Lenertz.
