Man who Murdered his Grandparents gets new Trial Date

Mason City, IA – A man who had killed his grandparents in November was scheduled to stand trial on Jan. 23. That date has been changed.

Codie Matz allegedly stabbed his grandparents to death in a home that they shared with Matz. The victims are 61-year-old Kenneth Hackbart and 64-year-old Kathleen Hackbart. Matz has pled not guilty to two counts of first degree murder.

Their bodies were found by officers on Nov. 7 in their Mason City home. The new trial date is set for Feb. 20 in Cerro Gordo County District Court.
