KCHA Sports Report (1/17)

In a game heard right here on KCHA last night, the Iowa State Cyclone men’s basketball team ran into a buzz saw at 24th ranked TCU. The Horned Frogs drilled 12 three pointers and shot 60 percent for the game in a 96-73 win in Fort Worth. Iowa State coach Steve Prohm could tell from the outset his team was not ready.

Donovan Jackson led Iowa State with 19 points. The Cyclones fall to 1-5 in the Big 12.

TCU point guard Alex Robinson had eight points and set a school record with 17 assists.

In a game heard on our sister station 951 The Bull last night, the Iowa Hawkeye Men’s basketball team was on the road for a Big Ten game against Rutgers.  Rutgers his six three pointers in the opening half then shot a scorching 59 percent in the second half and hammered Iowa 80-64. Junior guard Corey Sanders led four Scarlet Knights in double figures with 18 points.

That’s Rutgers coach Steve Pikiell (pike-ul). The Scarlet Knights improve to 2-5 in the Big Ten and 12-8 overall.

Iowa shot only 39 percent for the game and coach Fran McCaffery thought his team settled for too many perimeter jumpers.

McCaffery says the Hawkeyes could not get enough shots at the rim.

Jordan Bohannon led Iowa with 23 points. The Hawkeyes fall to 1-6 in the Big Ten and 10-10 overall.
