Scoring the winning points at a basketball game

The Charles City Comet boys basketball team was at home last night for a non-conference match-up against North Fayette Valley.  The Comets were dominant throughout the game and walked away with an 84-43 win.  Jack Molstead led three Comets in double-figures as he had 22 points, Mike Cranshaw had 17 and Noah Schlader scored 13.  The Comet boys improve to 15-2 overall this season and they will be back in action tonight as they will be at Waukon for a Northeast Iowa Conference game.

The Charles City Comet girls basketball team traveled to West Union for their game against North Fayette Valley.  The Comet girls once again fell short of picking up their first win of the season as they were defeated by the Tiger-Hawks 50-39.  Charles City’s girls fall to 0-17 overall this season and they will play against Waukon tonight as well as they will host the Indians in NEIC play.

The Nashua-Plainfield Husky girls and boys basketball teams will head to Sheffield tonight for a Top of Iowa Conference double-header against West Fork.  The Nashua girls come in with an overall record of 2-17 and they are 1-14 in the conference while the War-Hawk girls come in at 13-6 and 12-3.  The Husky boys are 9-9 overall this season and 7-8 in conference games and West Fork’s boys are 14-5 and 11-4.  The girls game will be first and get started at about 6:15 and the boys game will follow.

The Osage Green Devil girls and boys basketball teams will be on the road tonight for their Top of Iowa Conference games against Northwood-Kensett.  The Green Devil girls will be looking to stay perfect this season as they are 19-0 overall and 15-0 in league play; the Northwood girls come in at 2-17 and 1-14.  The Osage boys are 12-7 overall and they are 11-4 in TIC games while the Viking boys come in at 2-16 and 1-14.  The girls game will get started at about 6:15 and they will begin the boys game at around 7:30.

The Rockford Warrior girls and boys basketball teams will host North Butler tonight in a Top of Iowa Conference double-header.  The Rockford girls are 4-15 overall this season and they are 4-11 in the conference while the North Butler girls are 9-9 and 7-8.  The Warrior boys have an overall record of 15-4 and their conference record is 12-3 while the Bearcat boys are 8-10 and 6-9.  The girls game will tip-off first at about 6:15 and the boys game will follow.

The Saint Ansgar Saints girls and boys basketball teams will travel to Mason City tonight for their Top of Iowa Conference games against Newman.  The Saint girls are 11-8 overall and they are 8-7 in the conference while the Knight girls are 10-9 and 8-7.  The Saint Ansgar boys come in at 10-8 overall and 7-8 in conference games while the Newman boys are 14-4 and 12-3.  They will start the girls game at about 6:15 and the boys game will begin at around 7:30.

The Iowa High School Athletic Association will be holding Sectional Wrestling Tournaments all over the state tomorrow.  The Charles City Comet wrestlers will be in New Hampton for their 2A Sectional looking to advance to Districts.  You can tune into that Sectional Tournament right here on KCHA tomorrow beginning at noon.  The Nashua-Plainfield, North Butler Rockford and Saint Ansgar wrestling teams will be in Clarksville for their Class 1A Tournament and the Osage Green Devil grapplers will be in Clear Lake for their 2A tournament.  The top two wrestlers in each weight class will advance to the District Tournaments next Saturday.
