New Hampton, IA – The influenza outbreak is taking Iowa by storm. 43 people have died from this illness since October with 14 flu-related deaths taking place last week. The Mercy Medical Center in New Hampton is going into “Level Two Visitation Restrictions.”
This puts restrictions on who can visit what departments in the hospital: the pediatric department is limited to parents and grandparents; obstetrics is limited to significant others and grandparents; isolation is limited to significant others, parents and two visitors; visitors 18-years-old or younger are restricted from entering the hospital; and other who are showing signs of respirator or flu-like symptoms are restricted from visiting the hospital.
Anyone with cold or flu-like symptoms are also asked to wear a mask into the hospital. Experts believe that the influenza outbreak has not yet peaked.
