The Charles City Comet wrestling team was in New Hampton on Saturday competing in a Class 2A Sectional Tournament and you heard it right here on KCHA.    The Comets came into the tournament with nine wrestlers and they were able to advance seven of those wrestlers to Districts.  Dylan Koresh was the Sectional Champion at 152 pounds and Tylor Zuspan was the Champion at 285 pounds.  The five runner-ups for the Comets were Bronson Forsyth at 113 pounds, Alec Staudt at 120, Elliott Sinnwell at 160, Jack Sindlinger at 170 and Josh Halligan at 220.  Charles City, as a team, finished in second place which qualifies them for the Regional Duals tomorrow night in New Hampton and the seven District Qualifiers will compete on Saturday in Parkersburg with the chance to advance to State.

The Nashua-Plainfield, North Butler, Rockford and Saint Ansgar wrestlers were in Clarksville on Saturday competing in their Class 1A Sectional Tournament.  The Huskies will be sending four wrestlers to Districts as Brock Dietz was the champion at 106 pounds, Jakob Whitinger was the runner-up at 113, Tristan Brase finished second at 145 and Nathan Dettmer was the runner-up at 195 pounds.  North Butler will be sending Trevor Brinkman was the runner-up at 126, C.J. Niedert who was second at 152, Brandon Trees who was the runner-up at 160 and Trace Engel who was second at 220.  Rockford is sending two wrestlers as Trevor Johnson was second at 138 and Cameron Rasing was the champion at 160.  Saint Ansgar was able to qualify two for District as well, as Devan Hackenmiller was second at 132 and Dayton Smith was runner-up at 182.  These wrestlers will compete in their District Tournament on Saturday at Luther College in Decorah.

The Osage Green Devil wrestling team was in Clear Lake on Saturday for their Class 2A Sectional Tournament.  The Green Devils were able to advance seven wrestlers as Averee Abben was second at 106 pounds, Joe Sullivan was the champion at 113, Joe Jacobs was the champ at 120, Brody Roll finished first at 132, Spencer Mooberry was runner-up at 145, Zach Williams was the champion at 160 and Colin Muller finished on top at 170.  The Osage Green Devil District qualifiers will compete at the Class 2A District Tournament in Parkersburg on Saturday.

There was also plenty of area basketball games over the weekend as the regular season starts to wind down.  The Charles City Comet boys basketball team was in Waukon for a Northeast Iowa Conference match-up with the Indians.  The Comet boys were able to stay perfect in conference play as they won over Waukon 84-69.  Charles City is now 16-2 overall and 10-0 in the NEIC.  They will return to action tomorrow night for a showdown with Waverly-Shell Rock at home.

The Charles City Comet girls basketball team was at home on Friday night for their Northeast Iowa Conference contest with Waukon.  The Comet girls failed to get their first win of the season as they were downed by the Indians 54-9.  The Charles City girls are now 0-18 overall and 0-10 in the NEIC.  They will play Waverly on the road tomorrow night.

The Nashua-Plainfield girls and boys basketball teams were in Sheffield on Friday night for a Top of Iowa Conference double-header against West Fork.  The Nashua girls lost to the War-Hawks 43-27 to fall to 2-18 overall and 1-15 in the conference.  The Husky boys fell to West Fork’s boys 65-48 and they are now 9-10 overall and 7-9 in conference games.  The Nashua girls will now focus their attention on the Regional Tournament while the Nashua boys will finish their regular season on Thursday against Tripoli.

The Osage Green Devil girls and boys basketball teams were on the road on Friday night for a Top of Iowa Conference double-header at Northwood-Kensett.  The Green Devil girls remained perfect on the season with a 63-20 win as they improve to 20-0 overall this season and they up their conference record to 16-0.  The Osage boys were also winners on Friday night as they defeated the Vikings 61-30.  The Green Devil boys improve to 13-7 overall this season and they improve to 12-4 in the conference.  The Osage boys and girls will look now to their respective postseason tournaments.

The Rockford Warrior girls and boys basketball teams hosted North Butler on Friday night in Top of Iowa Conference action.  In the girls game, the Bearcats came away with a 40-35 win.  The North Butler girls improve to 10-9 overall and they are now 8-8 in the conference while the Warrior girls fall to 4-16 and 4-12.  In the boys game, Rockford picked up a 50-34 win to improve to 16-4 overall and 13-3 in TIC games while the Bearcat boys fall to 8-11 and 6-10.
