Scoring the winning points at a basketball game

Mother Nature did quite a number on our area winter sports calendar last night.  The Charles City Comet boys basketball game at home against Iowa Falls-Alden was postponed last night.  No make-up date has yet been announced.  The Comet boys are scheduled to be in action tonight as they wrap-up the Northeast Iowa Conference season at home against Decorah.  The Charles City boys are 16-3 overall this season and they are 10-1 in the NEIC while the Viking boys are 9-10 and 5-5.  Tip-off for the Varsity game is scheduled for 7:30.

The Charles City Comet girls basketball team will be in Decorah tonight for their Northeast Iowa Conference match-up against the Vikings.  The Comet girls are 0-19 overall this season and their NEIC record is 0-11 while the Decorah girls come in at 8-12 and 4-7.  Tip-off for this Varsity game is also scheduled for 7:30.

The Class 1A Region 2 opening round game between North Butler Bearcat girls basketball team and Rockford’s girls was postponed last night.  They will now have their postseason opener tomorrow night in Greene with start time scheduled for 7pm.

The Iowa Girls High School Athletic Union will hold opening round Regional games tomorrow night for Classes 2A and 3A.  The Nashua-Plainfield Husky girls basketball team will play at Denver tonight for their Class 2A Region 3 opener.  The Nashua girls are 2-19 overall this season while the Cyclone girls are 7-14.  Tip-off for this game will be at 7pm.

The Osage Green Devil girls basketball team will begin their postseason tournament at home tomorrow night as they will welcome in Waterloo Columbus for a Class 3A Region 3 Quarter-Final.  The Green Devil girls are a perfect 21-0 overall this season and they are ranked fifth in Class 3A while the Columbus girls are 4-17 overall this season.  You can tune into this game tomorrow night on our sister station 987 KISS Country starting with a pre-game at 6:45 and tip-off will be at 7pm.

The Saint Ansgar Saints girls basketball team will have a home game tomorrow night for their Class 2A Region 3 opening round.  The Saints, who are 12-9 overall this season will host Lake Mills who enters the game at 8-12.  This game will also start at 7pm.

The Iowa High School Athletic Association will be holding District Wrestling Tournaments all over the state tomorrow with the top two individuals in each class advancing to the State Tournament next week in Des Moines.  The Charles City Comet and Osage Green Devil wrestling teams will be in Parkersburg for their Class 2A District Tournament.  The Comets and Green Devils will each have seven wrestlers competing as the Comets will have Bronson Forsyth at 113 pounds, Alec Staudt at 120, Dylan Koresh at 152 pounds, at 160 they have Elliott Sinnwell, Jack Sindlinger at 170 pounds, Josh Halligan at 220 and Tylor Zuspan at 285 pounds.  Participating for the Green Devils will be Averee Abben at 106 pounds, Joe Sullivan at 113, Joe Jacobs at 120 pounds, at 132 pounds Brody Roll, Spencer Mooberry at 145 pounds, Zach Williams at 160, Collin Muller at 170 pounds.  You can tune into all of the hold-by-hold action in Parkersburg right here on KCHA starting with a pre-meet at 11:45 and the first matches will be at noon.

The Nashua-Plainfield, North Butler-Clarksville, Rockford and Saint Ansgar District Qualifiers will be in Decorah tomorrow for their Class 1A District at Luther College.  The Huskies will have Brock Dietz at 1-6 pounds, Jakob Whitinger at 113, Tristan Brase at 145 pounds and Nathan Dettmer at 195 pounds competing.  The North Butler-Clarksville team is sending Trevor Brinkman at 126 pounds, C.J. Niedert at 152 pounds, Brandon Trees at 160 and Trace Engel at 220 pounds.  Representing the Rockford Warriors will be Trevor Johnson at 138 pounds and Cameron Rasing at 160 pounds and the Saint Ansgar Saints have Devan Hackenmiller 132 pounds and Dayton Smith at 182 pounds.  KCHA will have live updates from this District during the broadcast tomorrow as this event will also begin at noon.
