The Iowa High School Athletic Association and Iowa High School Girls Athletic Union held Bowling State Qualifying Meets all over the State yesterday. The Charles City Comet girls and boys bowling teams were in Decorah for their Class 1A meet and you heard the updates all afternoon on KCHA. The Comet boys and girls were able to walk away with all of the hardware as they were both crowned team champions and had the individual high scores as well. For the boys, the Comets finished with a combined score of 3151 which was close to 200 pins over second place Decorah. Kaleb Ross and Noah Reams tied for the highest individual two game score as they each finished with a 467. For the girls, Charles City dominated the field as they finished with a combined score of 2929 and Macy Ross was District champion with her two game total of 473. The Comet boys and girls bowling teams will compete at the State Meet on Monday at Cadillac Lanes in Waterloo.
The Iowa Girls High School Athletic Union also continued their Basketball Regional Tournaments last night in Classes 1A and 2A. The Nashua-Plainfield Husky girls basketball team was in Jesup for their Class 2A Region 3 Quarter-Final. The Nashua girls fell behind early as they found themselves trailing 35-14 at halftime and could not climb out of that hole as they lost the game 61-37. The Huskies finish their season with a record of 3-20.
The North Butler Bearcat girls basketball team was at home last night for their Class 1A Region 2 Quarter-Final against Mason City Newman. The Bearcats, too, saw their season come to a close as they went down in defeat by a final score of 69-53. The North Butler girls’ season ends with a record of 11-10.
The Saint Ansgar Saints girls basketball team was in Manly last night for their Class 2A Region 3 Quarter-Final against Central Springs. The game was close throughout and the Saints held a slim two-point lead heading into the fourth quarter. Central Springs would then outscore Saint Ansgar 19-10 in the fourth to win the game 50-43. The Saints girls finish up their season with a record of 13-10.
The girls postseason basketball schedule continues tonight with Classes 4A and 5A holding Quarter-Final match-ups. The Charles City Comet girls basketball team will be in Decorah tonight for their Regional game against the Vikings. The Comet girls are 0-20 overall this season while the Decorah girls are 9-12. The Vikings won both match-ups during the regular season as they beat the Comets 47-40 in Charles City on January 12th and then won their game last Friday in Decorah by a final score of 52-40. The Iowa High School Athletic Association will begin its State Wrestling Tournament today with All Classes holding State Duals. The New Hampton Chickasaw wrestling team is the top seed in the Class 2A Tournament and will take on eight-seed Webster City in the first round.
