Linus D. Schrage, 77, of Charles City, passed away Wednesday, February 14, 2018 at the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit in Mason City with his loving family by his side.
A funeral service for Linus Schrage will be held 2:00 p.m. Sunday, February 18, 2018 at Messiah Lutheran Church in Charles City with Pastor Daniel Larson from Cross Evangelical Lutheran Church officiating. Burial will be at Riverside Cemetery in Charles City.
Visitation will be at Hauser Funeral Home from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. Saturday, February 17, 2018 and will continue one hour before the service at the church on Sunday.
Linus Dean Schrage, the son of Clarence and Valda (Walsh) Schrage, was born February 26, 1940 at home north of Bristow, Iowa West Point Township. He was baptized and confirmed at St. John Lutheran Church in Vilmar, Iowa. Linus attended country school until 6th grade, middle school in Greene and graduated from Allison Bristow High School in 1957.
Linus was united in marriage to Sandra Nelson on July 23, 1960 at Cross Evangelical Lutheran Church in Charles City. This union was blessed with four daughters: Kimberly, Kelly, Kathy and Konnie. He was a member of Messiah Lutheran Church for 45 years.
Linus’s family was the joy of his life. When the girls were young, they enjoyed going to Clear Lake most weekends for swimming and picnics. Yearly family trips were to Osage Beach in the Ozarks. He loved attending his grandchildren’s sporting events and grandparents day at their schools. Linus and Sandy enjoyed traveling to British Columbia, Hawaii, Europe, various cruises and Disney World.
Linus’s working career was in sales and sales management. He enjoyed playing golf, attending stock car races, chuck wagon races, casinos, playing pool, playing cards (especially 500), watching rodeos at Biloxi, Mississippi and playing blackjack and board games with the grandkids. In later years he was an avid reader of agricultural material.
Living family members include his wife of almost 58 years, Sandy of Charles City; four daughters: Kimberly (Dean) Marzen of Charles City, Kelly (Paul) Baron of Burnsville, Minnesota, Kathy (Glenn) Sansburn of Plymouth, Minnesota and Konnie (Rick) Stewart of Savage, Minnesota; seven grandchildren: Jesse (Kari) Marzen, Anna Baron, Isaac Baron, Ryan Sansburn, Jason Sansburn, Kaylyn Stewart and Brooke Stewart; four great-grandchildren: Tyler, Noah, Isaiah and Liliana Marzen; two sisters-in-law: Dora Schrage of Marble Rock and Suzi (Jim) Zirbel of Charles City; three nephews; and one niece.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Edwin Schrage; parents-in-law, Stanley and Leona Nelson; and brother-in-law, Jack Nelson.
