Early week winter storm could produce significant ice accumulations

Charles City, Iowa – The National Weather Service in La Crosse, WI says a powerful winter storm will impact the area Monday into Tuesday.

Forecasters say drizzle or freezing drizzle will develop late Sunday night with light freezing rain or rain continuing on Monday. A coating of ice will lead to slick and hazardous travel conditions over parts of northeast Iowa and Southeast Minnesota on Monday.

Another round of possibly significant icing is expected to develop Monday evening into Tuesday.

A number of winter weather headlines are in effect for the area:

  • Winter Weather Advisory until noon Tuesday for Cerro Gordo, Franklin & Worth
  • Winter Weather Advisory until 6pm Tuesday for Floyd, Chickasaw, Howard, Mitchell & Winneshiek
  • Winter Weather Advisory from 9am Monday to 6pm Tuesday for Winneshiek
  • Winter Weather Advisory from 9pm Monday to 6pm Tuesday for Fayette
