North Iowa Man Receives his Patch from the National Guard

North Iowa – A local man received his unit patch from the Iowa Army National Guard at a ceremony on Feb. 13.

Private William Portis graduated from Rudd-Rockford-Marble Rock High School last spring. He started his boot camp in June of last year at Fort Sam Houston in San Antonio, Texas. Portis will be joining the 1st Battalion 133rd Infantry Regiment. He will serve as an army medic for the Iowa Army National Guard.

The ceremony where he received his patch was held at Camp Dodge Joint Maneuver Training Center in Johnston.

Portis will be attending the University of Iowa in August where he will be studying for his pre-medical degree. Portis says that he hopes to become a doctor.
