In a game heard on our sister station 951 The Bull yesterday, the Iowa Hawkeye Men’s Basketball team took on Michigan in the second round of the Big Ten Tournament. The Hawkeyes were beaten at Madison Square Garden in overtime by a final score of 77-71. After shooting over 50 percent on the way to a five point halftime lead, the Hawkeyes were stymied by Michigan’s defense for much of the second half, head coach Fran McCaffery.
Ryan Kreiner led the Hawkeyes with 14 points as Iowa falls to 14-19 and the will wait to see if they get an invitation to play in a post season tournament.
The University of Northern Iowa Panther Men’s Basketball team played their first Missouri Valley Conference Tournament game last night in Saint Louis against Evansville. The Panthers were able to build a seven-point halftime lead and then were able to extend it in the second half as they won the game by a final score of 60-50. Wyatt Lohaus led UNI with 15 points and Hunter Rhodes finished with 14 as the Panthers improve to 16-15 overall this season. They will play in the Quarter-Finals today against top-seeded Loyola. Tip-off is scheduled for noon.
