Cedar Valley Schools Celebrate Read Across America Day

Northeast IA – The Annual Read Across America initiative with the Waterloo and Cedar Falls Community School Districts was held on March 2. Over 130 volunteers read to 92 classrooms for 30 minutes to promote their love for literacy and books.

The Community Foundation of Northeast Iowa sponsored the event this year and because of their support, over 300 books were donated to participating classrooms.

The event host organizations were able to expand the program into Cedar Falls this year due to the event’s popularity in its first year in 2017 and the financial support of the Community Foundation in 2018.

Read Across America is a national reading motivation and awareness program that calls for every child in every community to celebrate reading on March 2, the birthday of beloved children’s author Dr. Seuss.

Save the Date and participate in next year’s local Read Across America event, which will be celebrated in the Cedar Valley on March 1, 2019.  For more information on how you or your business can get involved, contact Katie Orlando, CEO of Big Brothers Big Sisters of Northeast Iowa, at 319-235-9397 or katie.orlando@iowabigs.org.
