The Iowa High School Athletic Association continued its basketball state tournament yesterday with Quarter-Final round match-ups. In Class 2A, Cascade won over Van Meter 60-47. In Class 3A, Cedar Rapids Xavier beat Marion 67-60, Glenwood was 67-58 winners over Norwalk, Waverly-Shell Rock defeated Mount Pleasant 57-51, and Oskaloosa got a 63-47 win over Sergeant Bluff Luton. In Class 4A, Iowa City, West beat Muscatine 62-50 and Waukee defeated Johnston 60-58. The final two Quarter-Final games in Class 4A and the Semi-Finals in Classes 1A and 2A will be played today as the tournament continues at the Wells Fargo Arena in Des Moines.
The Iowa State Cyclone Men’s Basketball team will open up the Big 12 Tournament today in Kansas City against Texas. The Cyclones are the ten-seed in the tournament and have an overall record of 13-17 and finished last in the conference with a Big 12 record of 4-14 while Texas comes in at 18-13 and 8-10 as the seven seed. The Longhorns won both match-ups during the regular season against Iowa State, but they could be without their best player for tonight’s game. Mo Bamba is a seven-foot tall Freshman for Texas and is battling a sprained knee. Bamba averaged 17 points and 14 rebounds in the two games against the Cyclones this season and could potentially be a top ten pick in the NBA Draft. You can tune into tonight’s game right here on KCHA beginning with a pre-game at 7pm and tip-off is scheduled for eight.
