Charles City, Iowa – The calendar says spring, but mother nature isn’t buying it as a strong storm system will bring rain and snow to the region on Friday.

A Winter Storm Watch has been posted for the listening area from Friday evening until Saturday morning.

According to the National Weather Service in La Crosse, WI., the precipitation will start out as light rain Friday afternoon then rather quickly transition to snow Friday evening. Moderate to heavy snow is then expected overnight into Saturday morning.

The heaviest snow looks to fall along and west of a line from Rochester Minnesota to Decorah. West of that line, you can expect 4 to 8 inches of snow, with locally higher amounts possible. East of the line, you can expect anywhere from 1 to 3 inches.

Any shift in the storm track could have a significant impact at how much snow falls across the area.
