Charles City, Iowa – A Rockford man was handed a five-year prison sentence on Tuesday after he attacked his wife two years ago.

Court records say 40-year-old Jason Weitzel pleaded guilty to several charges, including domestic abuse assault, carrying weapons, possession of methamphetamine and 1st offense OWI. Along with his prison sentence, he’ll have to pay $3,620.74 in restitution.

The charges stem from a few altercations that took place on March 5th and 6th, 2016 in which Weitzel punched his wife, reportedly got a hand gun and then fired it outside.

The next day, Floyd County sheriff’s deputies were called but when they arrived, Weitzel had already left. They tracked his cell phone to an area between Nora Springs and Rockford, then arrested him after a brief chase.
