The Charles City Comet boys track team was in Osage for an invitational meet that featured eight schools in all. The Comet boys finished with 87.5 team points which was good enough for fourth place. The Green Devils scored 102 points as a team for a second place finish. New Hampton won the meet with 137 points. The Comets had one event winner which was Gavin Connell in the 3200 meter run. Connell placed second in the 800 meter run, Mason Deeter got second in the 1600 meter run, Ryan Zuspan was second in the long jump, and the team of John Sibuma, Hakeem Sharief, Marcus Cranshaw and Jeremiah Chapman placed second in the 4×200 meter relay. For Osage, they also had one event winner which was the team of Wesley Smith, Lucan Schwamman, Thursten Taets and Gage Belz in the shuttle hurdle. The team of Josiah Meier, Dylan Aschenbrenner, Noah Slettin and Hunter Wagner placed second in the 4×100 meter relay, Wesley Smith was second in the 110 meter hurdles and Thor Maakestad and Spencer Mooberry went second and third in the 400 meter dash. The Comet boys will have another meet tomorrow night at Waverly. Osage will compete again tomorrow as well as the will be in Cresco.
The Drake Relays began last night and after finishing second last year and third in 2016 Riley Masters finally stood at the top of the podium after winning the Grand Blue Mile in downtown Des Moines Tuesday night. His winning time was 4:03.12.

Emily Lipari edged Olympian Brenda Martinez to win the women’s division and dropping her personal record nearly three seconds in the process.
Lipari says it was a good early win.
