Charles City crash results in charges, minor injuries

Charles City, Iowa – The Charles City Police Department responded to a collision at 6:49am Wednesday.

According to the accident report, a black 2012 Hyundai Sonata driven by 19-year-old Dakota Hewitt of Charles City, was traveling south on North Johnson Street when he failed to yield to the right of way, striking a blue 2010 Chevrolet Impala, driven by 33-year-old Lamone Heavens of Charles City, who was traveling east on Spriggs Street.

Hewitt was charged with failure to yield to the right. Heavens was charged with failure to use a child restraint device.

Several people were transported to the Floyd County Medical Center by ambulance for minor injuries.

Total damages between both vehicles was estimated at $14,000.
