Floyd County voters vote today for new jail and law enforcement center

Charles City, Iowa – Floyd County Voters will be going to the polls today to vote on a new $13.5 million-dollar Law Enforcement Center.

The bond issue would fund an addition on the west side of the Floyd County Courthouse which would include a 32-bed jail, communications center, emergency operations center and new offices for Sheriff’s department

Floyd County Sheriff Jeff Crooks talks about some of the concerns regarding the current jail.

The project also includes numerous upgrades to the main courthouse as well, like replacing windows and installing a central heating and cooling system, among other upgrades.

If your home is assessed at $50,000, you’d pay around $30 more in taxes each year, or $60 for a $100,000 home, over 19 years. For agricultural land, it would be around $1.07 per acre.

The polls in Floyd County will be open from 7am until 8pm tonight.
