The Drake and Northern Iowa softball teams have plenty to play for heading into the final weekend of the regular season. The Bulldogs wrapped up the regular season title last weekend and takes a 21-1 record into Saturday’s start of a three game series at home against Missouri State.

That’s Drake coach Rich Calvert who says this final weekend could have NCAA Tournament implications.

At 38-10 overall Calvert feels the Bulldogs have a shot at an at-large bid if they slip up in the Valley Tournament.

At 17-5 Missouri State has locked up second place in the league standings.

Northern Iowa will visit Southern Illinois. At 10-12 the Panthers are part of a three-way tie for fourth place.

That’s UNI coach Ryan Jacobs. Third and ninth place in the standings are separated by only three games in the loss column.

Jacobs says the Panthers are still working to find consistency.
