KCHA Sports Report (5/8)

The Charles City Comet girls and boys track teams hosted the Northeast Iowa Conference track meet yesterday at Comet field.  The Comet girls placed fourth overall as they finished with 97 team points.  Decorah won the meet with 205 team points.  Charles City finished with one conference champion event and that was the team of Lynn Hoeft, Tayler Schmidt, Alex Litterer and Sadie Ruzicka in the shuttle hurdle relay.  The Comet girls had a few second place finishes with Sydney Loeckle getting second in the discus throw, the team of Ruzicka, Sami Heyer, Schmidt, and Kiki Connell were second in the 4×200 meter relay, Ruzicka was second in the 100 meter hurdles and the last second place finish was the team of Schmidt, Heyer, Litterer and Liz Fiser.  On the boys side, the Comets came in sixth place as a team with 66 points.  It was Decorah’s boys who won the meet with 182 points.  The best placing for the Comet boys was the team of John Sibuma, Marcus Cranshaw, Hakeem Sharief and Mason Deeter with their second place finish in the sprint medley.  The team of Sibuma, Elliott Sinnwell, Jeremiah Chapman and Dylan Koresh got a third place finish in the shuttle hurdle relay.  The Comet girls and boys track teams will now shift their focus to the State Qualifying Meet which will take place on Thursday in Decorah.

The Charles City Comet girls golf team was in Cresco yesterday competing in the Northeast Iowa Conference Golf Meet.  Charles City’s girls came in a tie for fifth place with 468 team strokes.  New Hampton won the meet with a team score of 358.  Emma Williams earned All-Conference honors with her score of 103 which was good enough for 13th overall.  The other Comet girls who scored in the meet were Madee Tjaden and Marissa Daniels who each shot 109 and Hope Slinger who finished with a 112.  The  Charles City girls golfers will be in action again on Friday in Forest City.
