The Iowa Girls High School Athletic Union and Iowa High School Athletic Association held State Qualifying Meets all over the state yesterday.  The Charles City Comet girls and boys were in Decorah trying to advance to the State Meet.  Out of all of the events, Sydney Loeckle was the only automatic qualifier for both teams as she earned a second place finish in the shot put.  The Comet shuttle hurdle relay team placed third and might have a chance at an at-large bid and the same goes for Sadie Ruzicka in the 100 meter hurdles.  On the boys side, their shuttle hurdle relay team also finished in third place and could get the call to State.  The State Meet in Des Moines will be held at Drake Stadium starting Thursday.

Nashua-Plainfield hosted a Class 1A State Qualifying Meet that featured North Butler, Riceville, Rockford and Saint Ansgar.  Saint Ansgar’s girls won the meet and had several State Qualifiers.  They were: Chelsey Huisman in the 200 meter dash, Taylor Hanna in the 400 meters, Addy Carlson in the 1500 and 3000, Grace Heimer in the shot put, the 4×1, 4×4, Sprint and Distance Medleys.  Nashua will be sending two events to State which are: Makenna Nelson in the 100 meter dash and their 4×8 team.  North Butler will have three events at State which are: Morgan Arjes in the 400 meters, Mady Klingenborg in the 800 meter run and their Sprint Medley team.  Riceville will be sending Julia Klaes in the 400 meter hurdles, Josie Gansen in the long jump, and Abby Marr in the shot put and discus.  There were also several area participants who finished in third place in their respective event and will await word on if they will be going to State.
