KCHA Sports Report (5/21)

The 2018 Iowa State Track and Field Meet came to a close on Saturday at the Blue Oval in Des Moines.  Sadie Ruzicka of Charles City finished out her track career by running a time of 16.24 which put her 17th in the preliminaries, but did not qualify her for the finals.  Kiki Connell ran the final race for the Comets at the State Meet as she competed in the 1500 meter run.  Connell ran a time of five minutes and five seconds which gave her an 18th place finish.

The Nashua-Plainfield Husky girls and boys track teams also finished out their seasons at State over the weekend.  The team of Britney Holthaus, Brianna Bienemann, Kaylee Cerwinski and Chloe Matthews ran the Distance Medley in a time of 4 minutes and 38 seconds which put them in 21st place.  The Husky boys Sprint Medley team of Nathan Dettmer, Tristan Brase, Levi Enright and Evan Kalainoff ran a time of one minute and 38 seconds and garnered a 19th place finish.  The final event for Nashua was Dayton Hansen in the 1600 meter run.  He ran a 4 minute 48 second mile and finished in 21st place.

The Osage Green Devil girls track team had several events competing over the weekend.  On Friday, Paige Kisley qualified fifth for the Finals in the 100 meter hurdles with a time of 15.91.  She then ran a 15.58 on Saturday to take fourth place as a freshman and in the process earned five points in the team race for the Green Devils.  The Osage girls 4×100 team of Katelyn Halbach, Brenna Jacobs, Rylie Olson and Kisley qualified for the Final in third on Friday with a time of 50.80.  They then finished the Final in 51.31 which gave them sixth place and three team points.  The Green Devil girls 4×400 meter relay team Claire Huisman, Madi Johnson, Chloe Kresbach and Brenna Jacobs ran their preliminary in four minutes and ten seconds, but did not qualify for the Final.  The last event for the Green Devils was the team of Halbach, Olson Kisley and Jacobs in the Sprint Medley.  They finished in one minute 52 seconds and got a point for the team with an eighth place finish.

Nicole Heeren of North Butler threw the discus 112 feet seven inches on Friday and came in 12th place and then Mady Klingenborg ran her 800 meters on Saturday in a time of 2 minutes 29 seconds and gave her a 19th place finish.

The end of the track and field season now makes way for the summer sports.  The Charles City Comet baseball team will open up their season tonight with a home game against Clear Lake.  You can tune into this game right here on KCHA starting with a pre-game at about 6:45 and first pitch is scheduled for 7:00.

The Charles City Comet softball team will be on the road tonight for their first game of the season.  The returning state qualifying Comets will be in Osage to take on the Green Devils.  First pitch for this game is slated for 7:30.

The Charles City Comet soccer team will have their District Game tonight.  They will be in Independence taking on the Mustangs.  The game will begin at 7pm.
