In a game heard right here on KCHA last night, the Charles City Comet softball team hosted New Hampton in a Northeast Iowa Conference game.  Behind another sparkling pitching performance by Sami Heyer, the Comet girls shut-out the Chickasaws 9-0.  Charles City was ahead just 1-0 heading into the fifth inning, but scored four runs in that frame and four more in the sixth to put the game away.  Payton Reams hit her third home run of the season last night and Ciana Sonberg had two hits and two runs batted in.  The Comet softball team is now 16-1 overall this season and they up their conference mark to 7-0.  They will play again tonight at Oelwein and you can tune into the game right here on KCHA starting with a pre-game at 6:45 and first pitch is scheduled for 7pm.

The Nashua-Plainfield Husky softball team was in Northwood last night for a Top of Iowa Conference contest against the Vikings.  Nashua held off a late rally and were able to win the game 7-5.  Breanna Hackman had a home run and two RBI on the night and Toyia Griffen scored two runs for the Husky offense.  Rylee Weiss earned the win inside the circle as she pitched six innings, gave up two earned runs and struck out six.  The Nashua softball team improves to 4-7 overall this season and 1-3 in the conference.  Their next game will be Monday night at Garner.

The Nashua-Plainfield Husky baseball team was also in Northwood last night for their Top of Iowa Conference game against the Vikings.  Nashua took a 5-0 lead after two innings, but Northwood would score ten runs in the bottom of the third which would be the last scoring in the game as the Huskies went down in defeat 10-5.  The Husky baseball team falls to 3-7 overall and 0-4 in the conference.  They will play in a tournament held in Waterloo on Saturday for their next action.

The North Butler Bearcat baseball team hosted West Hancock last night in a Top of Iowa Conference cross-over game.  A three run second inning and a four run fifth helped the Bearcats to a 9-2 win.  Chase Eiklenborg led North Butler’s offense with three runs batted in and Beau Thompson picked up the win on the mound as he pitched all seven innings, gave up four hits and struck out 15 batters.  The Bearcat baseball team improves to 5-2 overall this season and they will next be in action tomorrow night at West Fork.

The Rockford Warrior baseball team traveled to Algona last night to take on Bishop Garrigan.  The Warrior offense managed just four hits on the night as they were shut-out 5-0.  Blake Farr had two of the hits including a double for Rockford who fall to 4-5 overall this season.  They will return home tomorrow night for a Top of Iowa Conference game against Northwood-Kensett.

The Charles City Comet baseball team will make-up their game with Mason City this morning.  The Comets come in with an overall record of 3-3 while the Mohawks are 3-6.  You can tune into the game right here on KCHA starting with a pre-game at 9:45 and first pitch is scheduled for 10am.
