Charles City, Iowa – Floyd and surrounding counties are in an excessive heat warning until 7 PM tonight. A heat advisory then begins from 7 PM tonight and lasts until 7 PM tomorrow night. Floyd County Public Health Registered Nurse Larissa O’Connor says infants and the elderly are at the most risk.
O’Connor says if you don’t feel better after hydrating and cooling off, you should head to the doctor immediately.
According to the National Weather Service, afternoon heat indices will top out between 100 and 110. It will remain hot and humid overnight with lows in the middle 70s. The heat continues into Saturday and heat indices are expected to reach 105. Thunderstorms are expected for Saturday afternoon. Heavy rain, flash flooding, damaging winds and large hail are possible. A slight cool down is expected for next week.
