In a couple of games heard right here on KCHA last night, the Charles City Comet softball team was in Decorah for a Northeast Iowa Conference double-header.  In the first game, the third-ranked Comets were dominant as they were 11-1 winners in six innings.  Sami Heyer earned another pitching win and Tayler Schmidt and Ashlyn Hoeft each had a home run.  Game two did not start so hot for the Comets as they found themselves down 9-2 after two innings.  Charles City would climb all the way back to tie the game at nine, but Decorah was able to score late in the game and beat the Comets 12-9.  Payton Reams had a home run in the second game as the Charles City softball team is now 30-3 overall and they finish their NEIC season at 16-2 and a Conference Title.  The Comets will travel to Iowa City today to wrap-up their regular season with a two-day tournament hosted by Iowa City West.

The North Butler Bearcat softball team was in Conrad last night for a non-conference game against BCLUW.  The Bearcats scored six runs in the top of the second inning and led it 6-1, but BCLUW came roaring back with 13 of the next 14 runs to upend North Butler 14-7.  The Bearcat softball team falls to 17-10 overall this season and they will conclude their regular season tonight with a home Top of Iowa Conference game against Belmond-Klemme.

The North Butler Bearcat baseball team hosted Northwood-Kensett last night in a Top of Iowa Conference contest.  Brandon Reiher pitched six and two thirds innings of shut-out baseball and Beau Thompson got the final out as the Bearcats won the game 4-0.  Reiher gave up three hits and struck out four and Chase Eiklenborg led the North Butler offense with two hits and an RBI.  The Bearcat baseball team evens up their overall record to 8-8 and they move to 7-8 in the conference.  They will also have a home conference game against Belmond-Klemme tonight.

The Rockford Warrior baseball team was at home last night for a non-conference tilt against Hampton-Dumont.  The Warriors led it 5-1 heading into the seventh inning, but the Bulldogs exploded for eight runs in the frame to take a 9-5 lead.  Rockford then proceeded to score five runs in the bottom of the seventh to end the exciting game with a walk-off win 10-9.  The Warrior baseball team improves to 9-13 overall this season and they will play at North Iowa tonight to wrap-up their Top of Iowa Conference season.

The Charles City Comet baseball team will host Waverly-Shell Rock tonight for a Northeast Iowa Conference game.  The Comets are 11-9 overall this season and come in with an NEIC record of 8-7 while the Go-Hawks are 22-7 and 11-4.  The start time of this game has been moved back due to the heat and the Varsity game will begin at around 8:30.  You can tune into the game right here on KCHA starting with a pre-game at about 8:15.
