Sports Report, 7/9

The Fourth ranked Charles City softball team squeaked by the Mason City Mohawks in the Class 4A Region 8 semifinal Friday night.  KCHA brought you the Maddy Peters walk-off bunt sacrifice  for the 2-1 thriller. Tailing 1-0 heading to the bottom of the seventh, Payton Reams singled and Cora Crooks followed with an RBI double to tie the game. Lydia Stuadt stole third and raced home to beat the tag.  Tayler Schmidt collected two hits and Sami Heyer earned the win in the pitching circle giving up four hits and sitting down ten batters. Charles City advances to the Region 8 Final tomorrow night at Sportsman’s Park against Center Point-Urbana, who upset Waverly-Shell Rock.  Pregame is at 6:45, first pitch is set for 7.

The Nausha Plainfield Husky softball is over. Central Springs rolled the Huskies 13-0 in just two innings.  Toyia Griffin had the lone hit for Nashua-Plainfield and Rylee Weiss is credited with the loss pitching ⅔ of an inning, giving up four walks, three hits and seven runs.  The Huskies finish the season 10-17.

The North Butler Bearcat Softball season is also over.  In the Bearcat’s regional semifinal, Janesville edged the Bearcats winning 2 to 1.  North Butler finishes the season 20-11.

The Osage Green Devil baseball team couldn’t muster enough offense in their regular season finale.  Waukon outlasted the Green Devils 10-7. The Devils begin postseason play this week.

The Saint Ansgar Saints, made it close early, but a disastrous pair of innings catapulted South Winneshiek to a run-a-away win. The Saints kept their contest against South Winneshiek close on Friday, but a combined 11 runs in the fifth and sixth innings were too much for Saint Ansgar. Mark and Adam Williams each went 2-for-2 with a double. Bryton Lowe contributed an RBI, as did Braden Powers. The Saints finish the season 16-10.  They begin postseason preparation this week.

Chris was born in Webster City and raised in Charles City. As a young kid, he would always be caught singing along to songs on the radio. He says he's good at karaoke but we think otherwise. ;) In his free time, he enjoys beginning new projects at home and hardly ever finishing them. Chris lives in Charles City with his wife Vicki, daughter Brynlee and son Jaxon.
