The Sports Report: Ticket Punched, Comet Softball Headed To State

Charles City, Iowa –  The Comets fell behind early, but one thing they learned from their comeback win Friday night – don’t panic.

Fourth-ranked Charles City scored six unanswered runs against Center Point-Urbana Tuesday night at Sportsman’s Park in the Class 4A Region 8 Championship winning 6-1.

Tayler Schmidt blasted a two-run homer in the fourth.  Ashlynn Hoeft’s sixth-inning homer were part of a 14 hit barrage last night.  Hoeft finished 2-4 adding an RBI double. Sami Heyer was the winning pitcher.  She sat down 11 consecutive batters.  Check out the video for pictures and highlights from last nights win.


The Comets play Des Moines Hoover Tuesday at 3pm in Fort Dodge.  The pregame show will begin t 2:30.

Other area scores: 

Saint Asngar dropped Belmond Klemme 14-1 last night.  Mark Williams uses 2 hits to register an RBI by scoring three runs.  The Saints play Sheffield West Fork in Mason City Thursday in the District 4 semifinal at 5pm.

BCLUW only needed five innings doing Nashua Plainfield 14-2.  The Huskies finish the season 12-15.

North Butler’s season is over.  AGWSR took out the Bearcats 12-2.  Bearcat Kendrick Miller collected two hits, an RBI, a double and a run scored.  North Butler’s campaign ends at 10-10.

Gladbrook-Reinbeck ends Rockford’s season last night, winning 7-2.  The Warriors finish the season at 11-14.
