In a game heard right here on KCHA yesterday, the Charles City Comet softball team was in Fort Dodge for their Class 4A State Tournament Quarter-Final game against Des Moines Hoover.  The game began shaky as the Huskies were able to score five runs in the top of the first inning on just two hits.  The Comets would inch closer with two runs in the bottom of the fourth inning on RBI hits by Tayler Schmidt and Payten Reams making the score 5-2.  Hoover would then score two runs in the top of the sixth to seal the deal as they defeated the Comets 7-2.  Sami Heyer pitched the complete game as she gave up six earned runs on five hits and struck out nine.  The Comet softball team falls to 33-7 on the year and they will wrap-up their season today in the consolation round against Independence.  You can tune into that game right here on KCHA starting with a pre-game at 12:45 with first pitch at 1pm.

We now switch gears to talk a little college football.  Iowa State head football coach Matt Campbell says experience along the offensive line should help the Cyclone offense make strides this season. ISU has four players back with starting experience up front off last year’s team that finished 8-5 and won the Liberty Bowl.

Campbell says improvement on the offensive line has been a priority since he took the job.

Campbell says the offensive line should help bolster the ground game.

The Cyclones open the season at home on September first against South Dakota State.
