With the Iowa State Softball Tournament in the books, the attention turns to Principal Park in Des Moines for the State Baseball Tournament.  Top ranked Mason City Newman scored three runs in the first inning and five more in the second as the defending champion Knights rolled to a 10-0 victory over ninth ranked Tri-Center in the class 1A opener Friday night.  The three runs in the first were more than enough for Newman pitcher Caden Kratz who surrendered only one hit and struck out six.

Kratz says the early lead helped him relax.

The Knights improve to 38-1 overall this season and advance to the Semi-Finals on Thursday against Martinsdale-St. Marys.

The Class 2A Quarter-Finals will be played today, the Class 3A Quarter-Finals will be played tomorrow and the Class 4A Quarter-Finals will be played on Wednesday.
