Kimberly Dawn (Schrage) Marzen, the daughter of Linus and Sandra (Nelson) Schrage, was born February 6, 1961 in Charles City, Iowa, baptized March 5, 1961 at St. James Lutheran Church in Allison and confirmed May 11, 1975 at Messiah Lutheran Church in Charles City.  She attended school at Allison-Bristow until 6th grade and graduated from Charles City High School in 1979.  During high school she worked at Kruse Pharmacy and continued there for a short time after her graduation then began working at the Floyd County Treasurer’s Office.

Kim was united in marriage to Dean Marzen on December 9, 1983 at Messiah Lutheran Church.  The couple made their home in Charles City and were blessed with their son, Jesse.  She worked in the Charles City schools as a lunch lady for a few years and then attended school at NIACC and UNI, graduating with her Bachelor’s Degree in Elementary Education with a minor in Mathematics.  Kim taught at Immaculate Conception School in Charles City and substitute taught in surrounding communities for a number of years.  She also tutored students, did real estate appraisals and was owner of Marzen’s Towing and Automotive for 35 years.

Kim was a member of Messiah Lutheran Church, Elks Lodge, a former Library Board member and a former member of Friends of the Library.  She enjoyed motorcycle rides on the Harley with her husband and dear friends Teri and Gary Pettit, spending time with her friends (always being a great listener) and watching the wildlife outside the windows.  Kim was also an avid reader and thought education and learning were very important (knowledge is power).

A large part of Kim’s life was dedicated to her grandchildren.  She spent time educating them, talking with them and just being with them whenever she was able.  They were her life’s pride and joy.

Living family members include her husband, Dean of Charles City; son, Jesse (Kari) Marzen of Clarksville; four grandchildren:  Tyler, Noah, Isaiah and Liliana Marzen; mother, Sandra Schrage of Charles City; three sisters:  Kelly (Paul) Baron of Burnsville, Minnesota, Kathy (Glenn) Sansburn of Plymouth, Minnesota and Konnie (Rick) Stewart of Savage, Minnesota; along with numerous nieces, nephews, other family members and countless friends.

Kim was preceded in death by her father, Linus Schrage on February 14, 2018; cousin, Duane Schrage; paternal grandparents, Clarence and Valda Schrage; and maternal grandparents, Stanley and Leona Nelson.

Chris Berg

Chris was born in Webster City and raised in Charles City. As a young kid, he would always be caught singing along to songs on the radio. He says he's good at karaoke but we think otherwise. ;) In his free time, he enjoys beginning new projects at home and hardly ever finishing them. Chris lives in Charles City with his wife Vicki, daughter Brynlee and son Jaxon.
