The Charles City Comets have started their campaign 2-2 after their early bird tournament on Saturday.  

You heard the season opener with the Comets against the Mason City Mohawks on Fab Oldies 1580 and 103.3.  

After taking the first set, the Comets dropped the third set 21-19, but rallied winning the three-set thriller off of a Sadie Gabel kill 16-14.  The Comets fell in three sets to Iowa Falls-Alden – the only ranked team in the tournament. Iowa City swept Charles City, but the Comets finished Saturday with a sweep of Decorah.  

The Comets travel to New Hampton next Tuesday. You can hear the Chickasaws and the Comets on 95.9 KCHA starting at 7 pm.


The Nashua-Plainfield Huskies have stumbled out of the gates to begin their 2018 season.

The New Hampton Chickasaws swept the Huskies last Tuesday and the Rockford Warriors also swept the Huskies on Thursday.  Freshman Makenzie Foelske led the Huskies with five kills against the Warriors. They hit -0.014. Nashua-Plainfield travels to Northwood-Kensett tonight.


The Osage Green Devils are off and running with a 28 kill performance in their first game of the season.   

The Green Devils swept Mason City Newman 25-7, 25-10 and 25-10. Sophomore Daniell Johnson led the Green Devils with 9 kills and Kisley Paige added 4.  Osage hit an outstanding 370 in the match.

They’re on the road at Central Springs Tonight.


The North Butler Bearcats have been busy in the first week of volleyball playing eight contests.  

The Bearcats are 4-4 coming off of a 2-0 set back to Harris-Lake Park. Mollie Hearn registered four kills in the match.  North Butler has beaten Northwood-Kensett, Belmond-Klemme, Eagle Grove and Clear Lake.

They play again tonight at Mason City Newman.


The Rockford Warriors are undefeated in 2018.  Last Tuesday, the Warriors outlasted Clarksville in a five-set match that saw the fifth set go the distance- 21-19.   The Warriors are coming off a sweep of Nashua-Plainfield where Jamie Schuster led the Warriors with seven kills and Kayla Carrol added three.  

Rockford hosts West Fork tonight.


The Saint Ansgar Saints ousted Central Springs in five sets to begin the 2018 season.  Jadyn Anderson, Brooklyn Hackbart and Blayne Koster combined for 40 of the 47 kills in the five-set victory.  Anderson 13 – Hackbart 13 and Blayne 14.
