FRIDAY NIGHT LIGHTS:

The Charles City Comets host their rival the New Hampton Chickasaws at a NEW time.  Kickoff from Comet Field is set for 6 pm and not 7. Both teams are looking for their first win of the season.  Here’s Comet Football Coach Darren Bohlen:

Nashua Plainfield is searching for their first win of the season.  They’re looking to rebound after getting shut out to North Butler in week 1 20-0.  The Huskies host offensive powerhouse Belmond-Klemme who racked up 61 points in their week-one win over Eagle Grove.


North Butler hosts Central Springs tonight at SIX, not seven due to impending weather.  The Bearcats are coming off of a 20-0 thumping of Nashua Plainfield. Central Springs is 1-0 after a 22-14 win in week one.


Osage and St. Ansgar square off in a gridiron rivalry game tonight in St. Ansgar.  The Saints will look to remain unbeaten while the Green Devils try to rebound after watching last week’s midnight miracle fall short.

Last week the Rockford Warriors made history – breaking a two-year losing streak.  They look to keep their momentum going tonight. The Warriors host 0-1 Kee High who lost 26-0 last week against Riceville.  


VOLLEYBALL

The Osage Green Devils continued their perfect season dismantling St. Ansgar 3-0.  After a 2-2 first set, Osage ended set one a 23-5 run. Paig Kissley led Osage with seven kills and Dani Johnson added 6. Osage is 3-0 and travels to North Butler next Thursday.

St. Ansgar has lost two straight and falls to 1-2.  They play in New Hampton tomorrow.


North Butler lost to Central Springs last night in four sets.  The Bearcats won the first set 25-23, but couldn’t muster enough of the first-set magic to continue.  North Butler is 5-5 with a date with St. Ansgar on Tuesday.


Nashua Plainfield is now 0-4.  They dropped a four-set match to Mason City Newman last night.  The Huskies travel to Central Springs on Tuesday.


The Charles City Comets travel to New Hampton on Tuesday.  The Comets are 2-2. The Chickasaws are 4-0 in 2018. CROSS COUNTRY

The Charles City Cross Country team hits the road running in the Wartburg Max Cross-Country Course at Wartburg College on Tuesday.  Junior high races are at 4:30 and high school races start at 5 pm. Runner Libbie McKeag say’s the summer preparation has helped her prepare for Tuesday’s meet:

 

Mason Deeter is a senior runner and says a performance at this meet could push his teammates to meet their ultimate goal.


COLLEGE FOOTBALL

College Football kicked off last night.  

#21 UCF blasted UCONN last night 56-14.
