MCRHC Lands Helicopter On New Hospital Heliport

Osage, Iowa – A northeast Iowa hospital will now have a state-of-the-art, fully functional heliport.

Yesterday afternoon, Mercy Air Med tested the newly constructed heliport at the Mitchell County Regional Health Center in Osage with a practice flight.  MCRHC CEO Shelly Russell says the hospital’s new building addition presented a problem for emergency response helicopters to deliver patients to the hospital.

The new heliport now sits on top of the 12-point-five million dollar expansion and renovation project at the health center.  Russel says the old landing spot carries safety concerns with pedestrians and cars.

Currently, the hospital transports patients being airlifted from an airport near Osage to the hospital. The heliport streamlines patient care and decreases risk such as extra personell, traffic and weather conditions.  Russell says the helipad has state-of-the-art features.

The hospital makes 25 helicopter transports per year.
