Washington Elementary Fire Alarm Caused By Air Handling System

Charles City, Iowa – Yesterday at 12:10, fire alarms at Washington Elementary school in Charles City sounded.  

Charles City Fire Chief Eric Whipple says there an investigation revealed no fire occurred.


Whipple says students and staff were outside for about 15 minutes.  All students and staff were evacuated safely and were allowed to return.


Communications director for the school district told KCHA, maintenance is looking into the air handling system on the roof and will remedy and prevent any further issues.
