Comets Fall To Hot-Handed Clear Lake, Tonight’s Area Basketball Lineup

Clear Lake 87, Charles City 60

The Clear Lake Lions used a 34 point first-quarter and then an eventual 48 point first half to blow out Charles City last night 87-60.

The Lions at one point when 12 for 12 from the floor and the deficit grew to as many as 33 before the Comets came firing back as Marcus Cranshaw drilled a three.


Jackson Molstead had the hot hand collected a game-high 29 points and led the Comets on a comeback to a 16-point game but that’s as close as it got.  Cranshaw finished with 10 and Bradley Andrews collected 11. The Comets are 1-1 and travel to Crestwood Friday.

Iowa State 81, North Dakota State 59

Iowa State had five players in double figures as the Cyclones cruised to an 81-59 win over North Dakota State. Michael Jacobson had 15 points and 10 rebounds and says defense has been a key in their 7-1 start.


Jacobson says balance is one of their strengths.


The Cyclones visit Iowa on Thursday. It will be Jacobson’s first game in the rivalry. He started his career at Nebraska.

#10 Michigan State 90, #18 Iowa 68

A nightmare for 18th ranked Iowa in East Lansing.


Jim Albracht with the call on the Hawkeye Network. Tenth ranked Michigan State closed the opening half on a 17-8 run then scored the first nine points of the second half in a 90-68 win. Iowa coach Fran McCaffery.


McCaffery says there were some good performances despite the lopsided score.


Hawkeye freshman Joe Weiskamp  limped to the locker room with an ankle injury in the second half and did not return.
