Mayor Highlights Nuisance Properties, Storm Water Issues As Main Goals For Next Year

Charles City, Iowa – Mayor Dean Andrews and the Charles City Council have released their progress on the annual two-year goals for the city.

Andrews tells KCHA the council spet time with a facilitator to help define, create and update their goals for the city in a strategic planning session.

Every two years the council goes through the process and they created seven goals from the last session including site certification, the fiber-to-home-project, nuisance properties and storm water issues.

Andrews says the city can’t remedy the storm water issue because the infrastructure doesn’t have the capacity for today’s amount of precipitation.

He says a growing concern in the city is nuisance properties.  Many of the of the properties don’t have any residents.

Some homeowners can take advantage of housing rehabilitation grants provided by the government.  Some can be worth up to 19 thousand dollars.
