High School Students Use Dance To Educate Peers On Culture

Charles City, Iowa – Yesterday at 11:16 am, the Charles City High School’s World Cultures Class put on a flash mob

That’s the Maori  people’s Haka  dance of New Zealand.  The students in the class learned the dance for two months before showing it to the school.  Aaron Montemayor is a junior.

Kaleb Osier performed as one of the Warriors in the dance and said this provided not only a unique experience for his classmates, but allowed the rest of the school to learn about a new culture.

The Haka is important to the heritage of the Maori people and has become an increasing symbol of New Zealand.  Ena David choreographed the dance and said the contrasting cultures between our nations created a challenge.
