Crestwood’s Last Second Shot Sinks Comets, Weekend Results

Friday night’s Comet boys basketball game against Crestwood came down to the final seconds.

 

Charles City falls to 1-2 on the season after the 62-60 loss.  Jackson Molstead finished with 29 points and Bradley Andrews added 24.  The Comets head to Oelwein Friday.

The Charles City Comet girls traveled to Saint Ansgar on Saturday afternoon.  Erik Hoefer had the call.

 

The North Butler Bearcats have fallen to 0-5 after dropping both weekend contests.  Saint Ansgar edged the Bearcats 43-42 on Friday. Then Hampton-Dumont blew out the Bearcats 58-39 on Saturday.  North Butler hosts Osage tomorrow.

Rockford picked up a 46-24 win over Northwood-Kensett Friday.  The Warriors are 2-3 and host Newman Catholic tomorrow.

The Riceville Wildcats dropped a 54-60 contest to Dunkerton Friday night.  The loss sets the Wildcats back to a 1-4 record. They’ll travel to Janesville tomorrow.

Nashua-Plainfield hosts Saint Ansgar

Boys basketball action:

New Hampton upended Turkey Valley 63-38 Saturday afternoon.  Tristan Sweitzer led the Chickasaws with 14 points and Connor Rochford added 12.  New Hampton improves to 3-2 on the year and travels to Waverly-Shell Rock tomorrow.

Osage picked up a 59-43 win over Belmond-Klemme Saturday afternoon.  Osage has won three straight and improves to 3-1.

North Butler has lost three straight after dropping a 57-33 game to Saint Ansgar Friday night.  The Bearcats are 1-2 and play Osage tomorrow. Saint Ansgar is 2-1 and travels to Nashua-Plainfield tonight.

Rockford is 4-1 with a 66-14 win over Northwood-Kensett Friday night.  

Riceville is -5 after Postville blew the Wildcats out 57-22.

The Iowa State basketball team headed into finals week with a convincing win.

 

John Walters with the call on the Cyclone Network. Tyrese Haliburton set a single game Cyclone record with 17 assists in a 101-65 win over Southern. Haliburton broke the 45 year old record held by Cyclone broadcaster Eric Heft.

 

Haliburton says the Cyclones learned some valuable lessons from Thursday’s loss at Iowa.

 

The Iowa State women cruised to an 87-35 win over North Dakota and coach Bill Fennelly was happy with the way his team responded to a heartbreaking loss at Iowa.

 

Iowa State football coach Matt Campbell has agreed to a contract extension. Todd Kimm reports.
