The Score Sheet: Comets notch fifth straight win after rallying to beat New Hampton

Charles City 69, New Hampton 62

Charles City and New Hampton boys played another instant classic in their rivalry game last night.  The Comets trailed all game including by seven points entering the final frame, but Charles City scored the first eight points of the quarter.

Charles City held on to their lead en route to a 69-62 win.  Jackson Molstead finished with 27, JJ Ritter collected 15.  Dylan Roberson led New Hampton with 16, Connor Rochford netted 13, but did not score  in the second half.

The Comets have won five straight and improve to 6-3,  New Hampton falls to  4-7.

New Hampton 56, Charles City 26

In the girls game, the Comets and Chickasaws played to a three-point line before halftime thanks to one of Lynn Hoeft’s baskets.

 

Erik Hoefer and Tony Slinger once again on the call.

After a 17-14 game, New Hampton blew out Charles City 56-26.  Maddi Moorman led the Chickasaws with 22.  Staudt, Jodi Sindlinger and Lynn Hoeft each collected six.  Charles City falls to 0-11 while New Hampton improves to 8-4, winners of three straight.

In other girls basketball action:

Rockford 52, Nashua-Plainfield 36

The Rockford Warriors topped the Nashua-Plainfield Huskies 52-36.  Jamie Schuster scored a game-high 22 points for the Warriors and Morgan Theiman added 11.  Nashua-Plainfield falls to 1-11 and Rockford is 6-6.

Saint Ansgar 48, Central Springs 27

You can now mark it as 10 in a row for the Saint Ansgar Saints who knocked out Central Springs 48-27 last night.  Jadyn Anderson and Hali Anderson each paced Saint Ansgar with 14.  The Saints are 12-1.

Other scores:

Osage remains spotless with a 60-42 dispatching of Newman Catholic.  The Green Devils are 11-0

The North Butler Bearcats snapped a two-game skid with a 43-25 win over Northwood-Kensett.

The 3-9 Riceville Wildcats lost 54-49 to Tripoli last night.

Boys basketball:

Rockford 58, Nashua-Plainfield 46

The Rockford Warriors are 9-3 after outlasting Nashua-Plainfield 58-46.  Max Rooney led a balanced Rockford attack with 17, Jared Marth had 16 and Matt Muller collected 13.  The loss drops Nashua-Plainfield to 5-6.

Other scores:

The North Butler Bearcats snapped a seven-game losing streak with a 43-33 win over Northwood-Kensett.  The Bearcats are now 2-7.

Saint Ansgar is 7-4 after a 70-43 blowout of Central Springs.

Riceville fell to Tripoli 48-42.

Baylor 73, #20 Iowa State 70

The 20th ranked Iowa State Cyclones stumbled on the road at Baylor.

 

John Walters with the call on the Cyclone Network. Baylor built an eight point halftime advantage and made the plays down the stretch for a 73-70 win.

 

That’s Iowa State coach Steve Prohm. Baylor had two key offensive rebounds off missed free throws down the stretch.

 

Freshman guard Tyrese Haliburton says there were too many defensive breakdowns.

 

The Cyclones will try to regroup for Saturday’s game at home against Kansas State.
