Mitchell County man enters plea deal for attempted attack on girl

Osage, Iowa – An Osage man has pleaded guilty after an attack on a girl in April where he threw her into a ditch in rural Mitchell County.

43-year-old Timothy Eugene Hines entered an Alford Plea Tuesday, which means he’s not admitting to being guilty but acknowledges a plea agreement is in his best interest.

He’s being charged with assault with the intent to commit sexual abuse resulting in injury.

According to the Mason City Globe Gazette, had the case gone to trial, testimony would show Hines was driving a 14-year-old girl when he began rubbing her thigh and started taking back roads.  The girl left the vehicle and began walking when Hines parked, followed her, pushed her into a ditch. He ripped her shirt open.  The girl escaped and went to a nearby house for help.

Hines could spend up to five years in prison and have his name on the sex offender registry list.
