Murder trial continues for accused Alta Vista mother

Le Mars, Iowa – The murder trial for 21-year-old Cheyanne Harris who’s accused of killing her four-month-old son, continues today in Le Mars as  Brandon Lewis reports.

Prosecutors allege Harris failed to provide the care needed to keep her son Sterling Kohen alive.  Defense attorneys argue Harris’s postpartum depression played a role in the infant’s death.

According to the Waterloo Cedar Falls Courier, Thursday afternoon jurors heard from the grandmother, Brandy Harris.  She recalled he was born at a friend’s house in a bath tub.  She described other details about the baby including his personality and life style.

The babysitter Jennifer Schriever, testified to her experiences with the family.  Friend Jason Clark told jurors about meth usage with Cheyenne and the infant’s father Zachary Koehn.

Koehn was convicted of murder and child endangerment during a trial in the fall of 2018.

Harris’s trial moved to the Plymouth County Courthouse in La Mars on a change of venue.

He says he's good at karaoke but we think otherwise. ;) In his free time, he enjoys beginning new projects at home and hardly ever finishing them. Chris lives in Charles City with his wife Vicki, daughter Brynlee and son Jaxon.
